Preço do lítio pode se estabilizar após dois anos em queda

Fechamento de minas e aumento de vendas de VEs na China contribuem para manutenção

Os preços do lítio devem se estabilizar em 2025, após as quedas registradas nos últimos dois anos, segundo analistas e traders. A expectativa é de que o fechamento de minas e o aumento das vendas de veículos elétricos na China sustentem o mineral.

Eles disseram, contudo, que o potencial para a reabertura das minas que tiveram que interromper suas operações devido à baixa nos valores do metal pode limitar os ganhos.

Desde o pico verificado em novembro de 2022, os preços do lítio caíram 86%. O mercado acredita que esses fechamentos podem significar uma demanda crescente pelo metal neste ano, que pode superar a oferta.

Espera-se ainda que a China traga políticas mais favoráveis para impulsionar as vendas de VEs no país.

A Antaike, provedora estatal de dados de commodities da China, prevê que o excesso global de lítio deve cair para cerca de 80 mil toneladas este ano.

O analista de mercados de baterias do CRU Group, Cameron Hughes, disse esperar ver uma recuperação do preço do lítio, já que as reduções observadas em 2024 e a possibilidade de novo recuo devem diminuir significativamente o excedente de mercado. Hughes também se referiu ao fechamento de minas ao redor do mundo.

Na China, o governo dobrou os subsídios para VEs em julho de 2023. Mais de 5 milhões de carros vendidos até meados de dezembro se beneficiaram da medida, que apoiou uma alta nos preços do lítio no final de 2024 e deve continuar a impulsionar o metal neste ano.

“O aumento do comércio de lítio no quarto trimestre de 2024 pode ser inegavelmente atribuído à política de fornecimento de subsídios”, disse um comprador de uma usina de materiais de cátodo de médio porte na China à Reuters.

O aumento nos preços do lítio ocorrerá no final de 2025, à medida que os investidores diminuem e a demanda do mercado spot aumenta, faz coro David Merriman, diretor de pesquisa da empresa de pesquisa de metais Project Blue. Para ela, os preços devem se estabilizar em torno de uma média de US$ 11.092 por tonelada este ano.

Um corretor chinês, por sua vez, prevê que os preços oscilem entre US$ 8.184 e US$ 12.276 por tonelada em 2025.

Apesar disso, analistas alertam também que a alta nos preços do lítio pode ser frustrada por um aumento na produção, já que as minas podem aumentar a produção do metal reiniciando as operações.

Além disso, a chegada da presidência de Donald Trump nos Estados Unidos pode afetar a demanda por lítio, já que o governo pode impor novas tarifas sobre as importações de baterias de veículos elétricos da China e reduzir os incentivos domésticos para veículos elétricos (VEs).
